Embracing every aspect of show business, Petula’s worldwide career has virtually defined the term “international superstar.” Starting as a child performer in her native England, she sang to the Allied forces during World War II, hosted her own BBC radio and television shows, was placed under a film contract by the renown Rank Organization, and had numerous hit records - all before her massive breakthrough in the United States with the song Downtown. With worldwide sales of over 60 million recordings, Petula has also had hit songs in Germany, Holland, Italy, Australia, Hong Kong, Denmark and South Africa. Her French recordings have made Petula a celebrated favorite in France as well as other French speaking countries around the world. In 2010, she continues to record and is currently working on a CD of French recordings. Petula has starred in dozens of British films and in the U.S she was paired opposite Fred Astaire in Francis Ford Coppola’s Finian’s Rainbow and Peter O’Toole in MGM’s musical remake of Goodbye, Mr. Chips. She has made hundreds of television appearances all around the world and has hosted a number of highly acclaimed television series and specials in England, as well as in France and the United States.
In 1981, Petula made her West End theatre debut starring in the phenomenally successful revival of The Sound Of Music. In 1994 she earned rave reviews starring on Broadway in the hit musical Blood Brothers. More accolades followed as she starred as Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard in London’s West End as well as on tour in the U.S - performing the role of Norma Desmond longer than any other actress to date. Today Petula continues to record, appear on television and perform in concerts around the world.
